Inspiration and Design:
Likely under the watch of a disturbed mountain lion, I was searching for something to paint on secluded Meeker Ranch in the Black Hills National Forest.  My search in this remote area sprung from an art event held there (Great Black Hills Paint Out 2008).  While the historic homestead is wonderful subject matter, I could not resist exploring the remote forest around it.  My objective for this piece was to capture the beautiful mix of warm and cool colors of aspen trees in late summer.  My approach to painting is to put big matters, before small.  Sky before cloud; field before daisy.  The color and design of the large masses must speak the idea.
