"Pronghorn Antelope, Custer State Park"
Oil     12x16
Inspiration and Design:
The morning sun threw long shadows across across Custer State Park.  The dew on the landscape made it shimmer.  I purposefully include antelope in both sun and shade in the composition.  My primary goal of this painting was to convey the "wild" of this wilderness.  In particular, the trees must appear as proud as they are, brutalized by nature, yet unyielding.  I exaggerated and simplified their form and color to achieve a stronger expressive effect.
