Custer State Park, South Dakota
April 17
"Tatanka, Morning Light"
Oil     9x14
Inspiration and Design:
It was just me and the Tatanka on a beautiful September dawn in Custer State Park.  The only “intruder” was a Park Ranger.  He arrived after his coffee and chased me out of what procedure considers a dangerous position.  Fortunately I was not trampled and gored.  More fortunately, I captured this image in my mind and camera.  The American Indian (Lakota) name for the American Bison is “Tatanka”.  My painting gives tribute to it.
