"The Wet Spring of 2008"
Oil   11x14
Inspiration and Design:
It rains often in spring in Missouri, but the spring of 2008 was the wettest I could ever remember.  It rained seemingly every other day, and each rain event brought an inch or more.  Further, the timing seemed incredibly bad; I think every one of my planned outdoor events from March through May was adversely affected by rain.  However, with my deep farming roots, I find it difficult to frown on rain.  Drought is much worse than too much water.  This painting was to hang in a plein air show at the Shaw Nature Reserve later that evening.  In keeping with the theme of 2008, rain eventually chased me from my painting location.  My primary goal for this painting was to capture one of the wet days in the Spring of 2008 in Missouri.
