The fall color was peaking, but the autumn sky caught my attention on this day.  The address of this barn and property is 650 Schluersburg Rd, and the gracious owners are Vernon and Joanne Ditch.  My goal for this painting was to communicate the sense of a sturdy old barn in threatening weather.  I emphasized horizontal lines around the barn (sky and ground) while using vertical brushstrokes to depict the barn.  In the compostion I filtered out the nearby objects (the old pear tree), as adding it detracted from my overall goal.  A tree with colorful foliage was not required in the composition as the color of the ground adequately communicated autumn.
