"A Colorful Spot, Ebenezer Lutheran Church"
Watercolor     9x12
Inspiration and Design:
A first!  I was painting on location, and a used-clothing sale broke out.  The Plein Air Painters of Chicago were painting on this day in the Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago, IL.  The subject that I chose was the historic Ebenezer Lutheran Church.  Unbeknownst to me, the church had planned a used-clothing sale that day.  Despite the potential disruption to their commerce, the church members were very friendly and allowed me to continue.  One young visitor, Noah, was quite interested in what I was doing, and I let him use some of my materials to give it a try.  I initially attempted to find a paintable view of the church building, but the colorful spot around a flowering Rose of Sharon grabbed my attention.  The stained-glass windows provided a great backdrop for the white flowers.  My goal was to capture the plentiful color of this spot.
